Review zaal 't Voorhof, Vilvoorde
Saturday evening, February 16, Zaal Het Voorhof, Vilvoorde : one of the most bizarre rockabilly evenings of my life. And I don't mean that the bands were bad, quite on the contrary !
There just was a very low attendance... Only a handful of quiffs and a couple of friends of the organiser had turned up. Yet he'd made publicity and spread around flyers for weeks in advance. Was it too cold to go out, or was everybody at the festival in Hof Ter Lo ? Hard to believe. Anyway, the first band of the evening, The 2-Tones, kicked off around 10 pm.
This band from Holland has been around for several years (10 ?) and I have a cd of them, but I'd  ... continue reading

Drunkabilly Cd Release Party, Hof Ter Loo, 16/02/08
As done before, Drunkabilly Records, organized a party to celebrate the release of 4 new cdís on the label.
On stage this time, The Cenobites, The Baboons, Runnin Wild, Nigel Lewis.
We arrived their round 20h00 and found a lot of people standing outside, apparently the antismoking bill was supposed to be stricter. No smoking in the Hall. Well lets say it didnít take long. So after we got our stamp we made our way inside, the front room with the bar, had already filled up nicely and when we walked into the concert hall, the place seemed deserted. But this would change quickly, by the time the first band started to play, the place was filled.

A film by Irving Klaw
DVD submitted by
FilmFreaks
There is a place in the heart of every man for that one special woman, Bettie Page! Iconic goddess of the fifties pin-up scene and queen of the burlesque this girl is best know for her scantly clad bondage pictures and short films.

As this film is more or less a collection of strip acts and stand Up comedians there is really no plot to explain here other then Bettie Page doing some dance acts. Also featured are other big names like Tempest Storm, Trudy Wayne and Vicky Lynn.

However donít  ... continue reading

Vegas rocker Freddie Bell dies at 76
LAS VEGAS (AP) ó Freddie Bell, a forerunner in the 1950s rock 'n' roll era whose toe-tapping versions of "Giddy Up A Ding Dong" and "Hound Dog" inspired Elvis Presley to cover the songs, has died. He was 76.

Bell died late Sunday in a Las Vegas hospital of complications from cancer, said his publicist Norm Johnson.

Bell was performing at the Sands casino-hotel on the Las Vegas Strip in the mid-1950s when Presley was just an opening act across the street at the New Frontier. Bell's upbeat covers, and perhaps his knee-wiggling dance moves, inspired Presley, Johnson said.

"He loved Freddie's version," Johnson said. "He  ... continue reading

Jerry Lee Lewis, John Fogerty help Grammys mark 50 years of music's influence on social change
Jerry Lee Lewis and John Fogerty warmed up for their upcoming collaboration on the Grammy Awards by tearing it up in celebration of music's influence on social change over the last 50 years.

Lewis didn't make it halfway down the red carpet at Wednesday night's "Sounds of Change," this year's Grammy Foundation Music Preservation Project.

"My back's hurting. I'm going to go sit down," the 72-year-old musician said.

But Lewis came back strong.

He sounded energetic enough to make the Wilshire Ebell Theatre audience believe it was 1957 again with a searing rendition of "Great Balls of Fire." He thumped the electric  ... continue reading
