Jerry Lee Lewis Lost and Found
In Jerry Lee Lewis: Lost and Found, author Joe Bonomo delves deeply into the accidental intersection between fading American Rockabilly and the ascending Beatlemania. By first taking a look at the critical years before his famed night in 1964 at West Germany’s Star-Club, then the tumultuous years that follow, culminating in his years on the American Country charts in the late 60s/early 70s, Bonomo brings Jerry Lee Lewis to life in new and fascinating ways.

For all you rich folks out there
LOS ANGELES – The crypt above Marilyn Monroe is going back on the auction block.

Bidding for the marble mausoleum crypt will start at $500,000 beginning Oct. 19, according to organizer Eric Gazin of AuctionCause.com. A previous $4.6 million bid for the space fell through in August when Elsie Poncher first attempted to auction off her late husband's crypt.

The new eBay.com auction will end Oct. 29 and require a 1 to 5 percent refundable deposit, based on the bid.

Gazin says he believes the crypt at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery will fetch "millions of dollars" at auction. Other celebrities including Farrah  ... continue reading

Grab some Elvis hair
The King may be dead, but that doesn't mean it's too late to run your fingers through his hair.

Elvis Presley's hair, at least a clump of hair that Presley may have lost to an Army barber when he went into the service back in 1958, is going on the auction block in Chicago.

The hair is part of a collection of more than 200 items that belonged to or are associated with Presley.

There are clothes he wore, scarves he threw to screaming fans - who judging by the yellow sweat stains, never washed them - and Christmas cards he sent. And there are lots of records, some he kept in his own juke box, and other sorts of memorabilia  ... continue reading

A dark 'Lonely Avenue' turn for Stray Cat Setzer
Brian Setzer can't keep his fingers still. When he talks about his new CD "Songs From Lonely Avenue," he has to grab his bright orange Gretsch guitar and start firing off the edgy riffs that make up his film noir tribute.

"It always starts with the guitar riff," Setzer said, pausing after playing the slinky intro to "King of the Whole Damn World," which veers from rockabilly to jazz, and singing in a soft, high voice.

The three-time Grammy winner recalls first coming up with one of the riffs and thinking, "That's really cool, that's kind of dark." It sounded like a soundtrack, Setzer said.

"So I got that idea — what  ... continue reading

The Sureshots & Liquiorbox
A double gig last weekend at the Ace café.
It started on Friday with a visit from The Sureshots.
These guys have been playing since the eighties, and from what i can tell and heared they’ve lost a bit of their energy trough out the years. Still a great gig and excellent performance. Normally they would have been in Belgium for 2 gigs, but someone cheeky managed to set up a gig in Thursday for them as well. Now normally this wouldn’t be a problem for me, but if you act all childish about setting up this gig and then spreading the word, with the message don’t tell Chris. Then all i have to say is grow up. But enough ranting about that,  ... continue reading

Famed Philly singer Bobby Rydell charged with DUI
By Inquirer Staff

Lower Merion police have lowered the boom on Bobby Rydell, the onetime teen idol whose 1969 Bentley wreaked a bit of havoc in Narberth last month.

Rydell, 67, was charged with driving under the influence after tests determined his blood-alcohol level was more than double the legal limit when his car jumped a curb and swiped a decorative pole, shrubbery, and a landscape wall outside a yoga salon on Montgomery Avenue.

No one was injured.

Rydell told 6ABC the day after the accident that he had had a "couple of drinks at lunch."

Linda Hoffman Rydell said last month that her husband failed  ... continue reading
